LOVR Reunion at Ice House

What can I say about this joyous establishment, hostel, support group, my college home? I have met and lived with the best friends anyone could ever have at this place. There was never a question that we spent too much time together. We worked together, ate together, partied together, and even shared the same rooms together. We called it the LOVeR house because we all loved each other just as a family does, and not to forget the street that it was on was Los Osos Valley Road (LOVR). It seemed perfect.

Anyone who didn’t live there was always the 5th, 6th, or 7th roommate. You’d wake up in the morning and find friends sleeping on the couch, and then come back from work with them still there. Our door was always open even if the whole house was out of town. You always had a place to stay.

With this bond, we’ve tried every year to have a reunion. We’ve come together for wine tasting trips, festivals, birthdays, weddings, and our favorite camping through California trips. This year the reunion was at Ice House Reservoir in the El Dorado Forrest up in Northern California. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect!

This gem of a camping spot is located in between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. It’s a basic camping site with bathrooms (though you’d feel cleaner going into the woods), electrical hook ups for RVs, and tent sites. Some are first come first serve with lake side spots needing reservations. Even on the hottest day most of the sites are shaded by the trees. The lake water was crystal clear, the aroma of trees brought a freshness to the air, and the gorgeous snow capped mountains in the distance brought it all together.

If you’re looking for a quick getaway from the city then this is it, even for you technological fiends you’ll still have cell phone service there. Don’t forget water toys (boats, kayaks, jet skiis, etc.), fishing, hiking, and biking gear. You can do it all there – except the fishies might be a little slim. This was another successful reunion and we missed those who couldn’t make it. The LOVR house making memories and still going strong!
